Autumn Sketches

I stayed home again today.  Still not feeling 100% great.  Seems I caught what everyone else seems to be "enjoying" - some kind of head crud that has made me dizzy with a swimming head.
I was a bit restless, though, and felt inspired so decided to paint.  When I finally got my rear in gear and got into my studio, I just stared at the paper.  So much for inspiration!  I looked out the window to daydream and saw the sun streaming through the trees .... and the inspiration returned.  This is the autumn I love.  60's and sunny!

I had a run-on thought this morning. I've been having a lot of those lately, and they usually end with a "huh".  Here's mine today: We all live… in our tiny homes, in our tiny worlds bustling like teensy ants on our tiny planet… and if by chance our tiny paths cross from thousands of miles away, we recognize our tiny-ness and if we get a glimpse of what is beyond ourselves throughout the universe, we recognize our tiny-ness, if we dare imagine a God far bigger than any god man has created, we recognize more than just our tiny-ness... we become infinitesimal. From Darkness Into the Light

I was not planning on doing any more paintings until after Caiti's wedding, with everything that needs to be done in preparation for that, but I was inpired by a friend of ours who does his paintings by starting with a black canvas. I saw his 4' x 5' painting of Copenhagen in progress the other day and have been itching to paint ever since. It goes against my grain to even use black, but if the paint is completely dry, it won't muddy up the other colors, it just shows where you don't cover it. The result is a painting with lots of contrast if you paint extra thick .... Anyway, today I sat looking at everything that needs doing and decided I didn't want to do anything ... so I painted. While I waited for the black to dry, I cleaned a bathroom and went though and cleaned two cupboards and our medicine cabinet (all kinds of expired stuff...). This is what resulted so far.
